ALEXANDER PETROV

 

As one of Russia’s most successful actors, Alexander has carved out a career spanning wide-ranging roles both on screen, and on stage. Born in the small town of Pereslavl-Zalesskiy, he initially entered the University of Pereslavl and studied in the Faculty of Economics, however following a chance encounter with a teacher from Russia’s Academy of Theatre Arts he was inspired to leave his studies, and enroll in Drama School in Moscow (GITIS Theatre Academy). In his second year there, he began to pick up his first acting roles in films, and has worked consistently ever since then. His first leading role was in the TV series POKA TSVETET PAPOROTNIK in 2012. Upon graduation, Alexander worked on stage in productions such as: THE MERCHANT OF VENICE; Alexander Kalyagin’s adaptation of ET CETERA; HAMLET directed by Valeriy Sarkisov; and as ‘Lopakhin’ in THE CHERRY ORCHARD at the Moscow Pushkin Theatre. His screen work has firmly established Alexander as one of Russia’s finest actors & a leading box office star. In 2017, he starred in the hugely successful sci-fi feature film ATTRACTION, directed by Fedor Bondarchuk. Other notable performances include: as ‘Ilya Goryunov’ in TEXT; in war drama T-34; as ‘Sasha’ in the romantic drama ICE, directed by Oleg Trofim; for his portrayal of acclaimed Russian author Nikolay Gogol in the biopic GOGOL; and for Fedor Bondarchuk’s INVASION. International audiences have had the opportunity to see Alexander in performances ranging from the leading role of ‘Zhenya’ in the Netflix series THE METHOD, to the role of ‘Piotr’ opposite Cillian Murphy in Luc Besson’s ANNA. He can currently be seen in the international feature film MAN OF GOD, which is directed by Yelena Popovic.
