KARLIS ARNOLDS AVOTS

Karlis Arnolds Avots is regarded as one of the most promising actors to emerge from Latvia in recent years. Since graduating from the Latvian Academy of Culture in 2020, he has worked consistently across both Latvian theatre and also on-screen. He played the role of ‘Jazis’ in Viesturs Kairiss’ feature film JANUARY, which was Latvia’s foreign-language Oscar submission and which premiered at Tribeca Film Festival. In the television series SOVIET JEANS, Karlis played the lead role of ‘Renars’ – an ardent rock’n’roll fan who sets up an underground jeans factory in a psychiatric hospital. The show premiered at Series Mania in Lille, where Karlis was awarded the best actor prize, both there and also at Rome Film Festival. He has been nominated by the Latvian National Film Awards in the Best Actor category for two consecutive years. His collaboration with Viesturs Kairiss will continue as he plays the lead in his next film, ULYA, where Karlis will embody the tremulous teenage years of the legendary, world-famous Latvian women’s basketball player Ulyana Semyonova.
