JUSSI VATANEN

 

Jussi Vatanen is one of Finland’s best loved and most well-known actors. His breakthrough lead performance was in Dome Karukoski’s LAPLAND ODYSSEY, which has spawned two sequels, and since then he has worked consistently in numerous film and television productions, gathering multiple awards and nominations along the way. Jussi is known for his work on Aku Louhimies’s THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER, in which he played the highly challenging role of platoon leader ‘Koskela’. The film broke all box office records in Finland. Jussi’s other work includes: the role of ‘Zaney’ in the feature film DARK CORNERS, directed by Richard Parry; and the drama FOREST GIANT, which was written & directed by Ville Jankeri - and for which he received a Best Actor Award nomination at the Finnish Academy Awards in 2020. Jussi’s recent work includes: the lead in the crime series MAN IN ROOM 301 which was selected for main competition in Canneseries and was also the first Finnish language series acquired by the BBC; and playing the lead character ‘Jaakko’ in the thriller THE MAN WHO DIED - which is based on a best-selling novel and adapted for television by Markku Flink & Brendan Foley. Jussi stars in acclaimed screenwriter & film director Aki Kaurismäki’s feature film entitled FALLEN LEAVES (“Kuolleet Lehdet” in Finnish) which premiered in competition at Cannes Film Festival and which is Finland’s Oscar entry for Best International Feature.
