Albano is an award-winning Portuguese actor, who is widely acclaimed for his unique versatility both on stage, and on screen. He has performed leading stage roles in works as diverse as Shakespeare, Tennessee Williams, David Mamet, and Martin McDonagh. His extensive television work includes such series as: VILA FAIA; MULHERES; PAIXÃO; SANTA BÁRBARA; OS FILHOS DO ROCK; as ‘Duarte Sousa Prado de Oliveira’ in the hugely popular Portuguese series DANCIN’ DAYS; and in the critically acclaimed drama SARA, which won best series at the Portuguese Film Academy Awards. Albano is best known to international audiences for his performance as the Byzantine leader ‘Euphemius’ in the History Channel and MGM’s Emmy-nominated epic VIKINGS. His film work includes: the leading role of ‘Mário Lage’ in the biopic drama FLORBELA; Raoul Ruiz’s MYSTERIES OF LISBON; as ‘Samuel’ opposite Ivana Baquero in GELO; LINES OF WELLINGTON, directed by Valeria Sarmientov, which garnered Albano a Portuguese Film Academy award for his role as ‘Abade’; CAMINHOS MAGNÉTYKOS which earned him the Best Supporting Actor Award at the CinEuphoria Awards (his third); THE NOTHINGNESS CLUB; ORDEM MORAL with Maria de Medeiros; REMAINS OF THE WIND; and the lead role in A HERDADE (THE DOMAIN) directed by Tiago Guedes, which premiered at Toronto International Film Festival. Albano played the role of ‘Matheus’ in Netflix’s THE ONE, which is an adaptation of the bestselling novel by John Marrs. Albano played the lead role of FIFA President João Havelange in Armando Bo’s (Birdman) TV series EL PRESIDENTE for Amazon & Gaumont.
